Description🔵 AT&T and Functions originally created DjVU as a technology used to compress images. It has free and available source code and serves as a proxy to PDF. DjVU enables the distribution of scanned documents, photographs, and high-definition images on the internet. There is a complete set of DjVU viewers, browser add-ons, and devices capable of executing binary codes that are available on both Windows and Mac devices.
Technical details🔵 In the early 1990s and 2000s, AT&T developed DjVU by Yann LeCun, Leon Bottou, Patrick Haffner, and Paul G. Howard. DjVU is considered superior to PDF because it can easily convert large amounts of text to DjVU, its files are small in size, and people can use it freely. DjVU is divided into three types of images: background, foreground, and mask images, all of which have high resolution. The compression algorithm IW44 is used for compressing foreground and background images, while JB2 is used for compressing mask images, resulting in a significant reduction in image size.

Description🔵 .jpeg (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
The .jpeg format, also known as JPG, is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing for a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality.
JPEG is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web.
Technical details🔵 The JPEG (.jpeg or .jpg) format, created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group, is widely used for digital photography and online images. It employs lossy compression, reducing file size by omitting some image data, allowing a balance between size and quality. JPEG usually uses the YCbCr color model (8 bits per channel) and supports sRGB color space, RGB, and CMYK models. Compression levels are adjustable, affecting both size and quality: higher compression decreases size and quality, while lower compression increases both. JPEG images can be scaled down with minimal quality loss but scaling up can degrade quality. The format supports extensive metadata and offers progressive JPEGs for gradual loading on slow connections. Widely compatible, JPEG is ideal for photographs but less so for sharp contrast images like line drawings or text. Each re-save degrades quality slightly due to its lossy nature. Understanding this format is essential for those involved in photography, graphic design, web development, or any digital image-related field.
