Description | The Digital Negative format (DNG) is a lossless open RAW image file format developed by Adobe. Adobe created the DNG format to serve certain purposes that they believed the RAW file format couldn't achieve. These include digital image preservation, easy and comprehensive use by software developers, in-camera implementation by camera manufacturers, and compatibility across multiple vendors. |
Technical details | DNG extension files are structured according to TIFF/EP standards. DNG format supports various types of metadata. It can handle both raw and non-raw image data, resulting in "linear DNGs" and the standard variety. A linear DNG allows for adjustments such as color profiles, HDR, etc. made by raw converters. Any converter that supports the raw DNG file format also supports linear DNG files. |
