Descriptionn 2000, Microsoft introduced the .lit file format. One of its main drawbacks was its lack of compatibility with other devices. Sales of this format were discontinued in 2011, and it was officially discontinued in August 2012.
Technical detailsWith Microsoft Reader (ClearType), color is reduced, making visuals and reading on small devices easier. Users can draw on pages, take notes, highlight text, and search contents. PCs with plugins for text-to-speech can read the book out loud. Some Windows-based phones and Windows Pocket devices are compatible with LIT files, but Kindle, iBook, and Nook are not. Windows 95 through Vista OS, Pocket PC 2000-2002, and Windows Mobile 2003, 2003 SE, 5.5, 6.0, and 6.1 are compatible with LIT files.
