| Description | The PRC is an eBook file format that was created by Mobipocket, a French company founded in 2000. Mobipocket initially introduced the MOBI file format as their flagship eBook format. The PRC file format is very similar to the MOBI format that is used on mobile phones, Palmtop devices, and PC operating systems. However, PRC files are specifically designed for palmtop devices that support PRC or PDB extensions. You can use the Mobipocket Reader program to view PRC files on a PC. Amazon Kindle reading devices also have the capability to view eBooks with the .prc extension. This compatibility is made possible because Amazon.com acquired Mobipocket.com in 2005.
